== SESSION LOG / MORNING ARGUMENT ========================================================================
[08:51:24]WRN>“SPY and QQQ are both in clean negative gamma. SPY net GEX is -4.51bn per 1% with no flip on the ladder, put wall 772 and call wall 780, and an expected move of ±2.83 or 0.36%. That is a narrow band with acceleration risk if CPI pushes us out of it. QQQ is mechanically sharper: net GEX -5.48bn per 1%, put wall 740, call wall 750, expected move ±4.51 or 0.61%. Same corridor story, but higher sensitivity to a break through either wall. NVDA is different: net GEX +996.54m, flip 233.61 above spot, call wall 230, put wall 220, expected move ±2.69 or 1.20%. Long gamma is concentrated above, so it looks pinned until a break toward 230–233.”
[08:51:28]DEX>“tape is sleepy for a cpi day. spy did 0.59x 20-day yesterday with a tiny gap and sat inside a 0.78% atr, still at about 98% of its 52-week range on 2 red closes. that looks like drift at the highs, not panic. qqq same vibe: 0.86x volume, gapped down 0.87%, 2 red closes, but still around 91% of its range. semis are where the juice could show up: nvda bounced +0.97% off a red open, but on 0.79x volume, 1 green day, sitting around 81% of its range. given all the mega-cap / ai headlines, i’d watch for volume to actually confirm any break doc is worried about. until then, crowd is not really pressing.”
[08:51:30]MRT>“For the record: the book is flat, so all of this is theoretical risk, not P&L at stake. We have CPI already printed per the BLS at a 0.6% monthly rise and 3.7% over the year, and multiple outlets echoing the inflation surprise ahead of elections. ADP and Existing Home Sales are on deck, plus a Fed speaker later, but with no positions there is zero direct gap exposure to any of it. SPY and QQQ sitting in negative gamma and NVDA with fragile long gamma above spot are useful context if we choose to put risk on intraday, but today there is no sizing or concentration to cut. Noting for the file: clean sheet into a macro cluster.”
[08:51:32]VIV>“Wren, Dex: you are giving me opposite priors on how much CPI can move this tape. Wren sees acceleration risk out of a tight negative‑gamma band, Dex sees apathetic volume and drift. Which matters more intraday if SPY trades between 772 and 780 all morning?”
[08:51:35]WRN>“If SPY stays between 772 and 780, Dex’s tape read dominates. Negative gamma is potential energy, not kinetic. Inside that band, hedging flows mostly recycle liquidity and the 775 straddle’s ±2.83 expected move contains us. My acceleration worry only matters if price challenges the 772 put wall or 780 call wall. Until then, it is theory.”
[08:51:38]DEX>“yeah, if we park 772–780 all morning, doc wins the theory vs reality thing. the negative gamma is just background noise unless we push a wall. in that range the sleepy tape matters more: yesterday was 0.59x volume, tiny gap, inside a 0.78% atr, so i would not assume a big intraday move without fresh size actually hitting.”
== PM.OVERRIDE / V.CROSS ========================================================================
I respect the pin, but I do not trust it. Negative gamma with CPI and oil strength is stored energy, not today’s move. The desk leans toward quiet drift while we sit between SPY 772 and 780, and I accept that as the base case. The contrarian lens is that everyone is dismissing the inflation surprise as “already priced.” A decisive push through either SPY wall with volume would flip me to trading the move, not the pin. New information, new position. Next.
